There are a wide variety of worktops you can choose for your kitchen in different shapes and sizes whilst in every possible material you can ever imagine. Therefore, choosing the perfect kitchen worktop material can be a grueling task.
Some of the most popular worktop materials nowadays include glass, stainless steel, wood, laminate, and granite kitchen worktops. All of which have their own advantages and disadvantages so it is important to recognise their features to help you decide on the perfect one for your kitchen.
Below are some of the things you need to consider in choosing the right kitchen worktop material:
The main point that you need to consider is the practicalities of the worktops. If you have children around the house, the elegance that glass worktop gives can be ruined by how it can be easily marked. Also, choose the ones that have antibacterial features such as corian and stainless steel.
If you love to cook, your kitchen worktop should have heat resistant properties for it to be not easily marked by hot pans.
Granite kitchen worktops are considered as one of the most expensive worktops available in the market but are definitely worth it. It exudes luxury and will never go out of style. It can be easily maintain, very durable, has the ability to withstand high temperatures and spillages.
Laminate on the other hand is perfect for general uses and can be used practically anywhere in the kitchen. And of course, it is cheaper than granite and have the potential to make laminate resemble other material through veneers. It is also resilient to stains and liquid.
Hardwood material is perfect for food preparation areas and looks great on almost all kitchens. Teak and iroko are perfect for sink areas since they have high levels of oil content and are consequently water resistant. To extend the life span of your wood worktop, it is advisable to stain the wood every couple of years.
